Jiu-Jitsu Instructor
Steve’s journey in jiu-jitsu started at Heroes Martial Arts in his hometown of San Jose, CA where he studied the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu under Alan “Gumby” Marques. Later moving to Santa Cruz to pursue his B.A. Degree in Music at UCSC, he began training at UCSC under his current coaches Garth Taylor and Luke Pollard. After graduating from college Steve spent 7 years working as a full-time music teacher, during which he taught upwards of 100 students, honing in on his ability to convey information that translates into physical actions to a wide variety of ages and personalities.
After receiving his purple belt in 2021 Steve decided to move on from teaching music in order to pursue his dream of running a jiu-jitsu academy. Since then he has dedicated his time to Garth Taylor Jiu-Jitsu and the practice of the art by managing the business, coaching classes, as well as training and competing as much as he can.
Steve instills in his students the building blocks of the art, laying a solid foundation for their growth and development. With his passion and unwavering dedication to his students, Steve Forbes embodies the ethos of excellence that defines our academy.
